  A Party For The Elders

  at the risk of outing myself and my hubby, i just had to run this by everyone to see if it was just me.... last night i attended a function that the women of hubby's hell put together to honor their boe.

  there was much food and they put the guys up on a stage and played "name that elder" and then interviewed each one.

  the mc of the event gave deep commentary regarding his feelings of each of the elders.. i thought the elders weren't special...that they were just regular joes with more responsibility...certainly not guys that should be lauded for doing what they have been given the "priviledge" of doing.... am i wrong?.

  They stopped short of giving gifts, but there was a nice skit put on by the ladies of the hell, sort of like, "A Day in the Life of the Elderettes"...or "What it would be like if women were allowed to be elders". It was disgusting...they were joking about the meetings being late because they'd be shopping and one woman came on stage with a giant bottle of "Midol" and was crying alot like she had the worst case of PMS in the world. Every stereotype you can think of for a woman, they showed it. I wanted to yell at them!

  Then one old elder with a foot in the grave told the "young ones" to stay away from the world and started talking about "bad associations". I put my hands over my daughter's ears!!!

  Am I wrong?

  Actually, I was rather ill by the time it was all said and done. Also, it occurred to me that the timing of the event was suspect...a dinner to "give thanks" during November...sounds like Thanksgiving replacement to me.

  OK ladies. Bald is beautiful on the right guy as long as he's also sporting a goatee. I also love long dark locks of hair and a stubbly beard. Gotta be tall and solid.

  Loved the pics Purps...Mr. Depp is the best of the group. As far as celebs go, how about Sean Connery and Joey Fatone? (I know they're really different, but I have a wide range of tastes...)

  Did you have "a personal relationship to Jehovah"?

  remember how it was always stressed how important it was to "have a personal relationship to jehovah"?

  that those who got disfellowshipped or disassociated themselves because of what members of the org.

  had said or done, or failed doctrine etc., wouldn't have done so "if they only had had a close, personal relationship to jehovah"?

  I always wonder about statements like that...how can you have a personal relationship with some one (or thing) that never talks back? How do you "let Jesus into your heart"? Basically, they're guys in a book. It's like having a relationship with Tom Sawyer, Ichabod Crane, or Scrooge.

  Purps, Reading your story totally reminded me of Mr. Witness's story (and brought me to the verge of tears). I WISH his mother had loved him more than her religion and taken care of him as you have taken care of your daughter. My heart goes out to you both and I wish you both the best.

  this is an interesting thing .

  wonder if any of you have heard what the governing body is telling the witnesses to do?

  my 22 tear old son was e-mailed by his fanatic witness mom, my ex-wife.

  Mr. Witness went through a "preparedness" phase last year (about this time, if I remember correctly). We had to stock the basement with canned goods, dried food, and a box of "stuff" to use. He proudly explained the elder call list to me and told me that if there was a disaster that the elders would come looking for us to make sure we were OK. He told me that the elders would also look after my non-JW mom & dad if we wanted to put them on the list.

  He even went so far as to call the village police and fire stations to see what the evacuation plans for our town are. I believe most of it stemmed from a pamphlet he received at a Thursday night meeting. It hasn't been reinforced lately, so his furor has died down...

  it has been sadly interesting to see fadingeld's and others experiences unfold...wife out the door pronto and some not.

  many here are still married, one in one out.

  i have basically had a sucessful unplanned fade.
